Most shooters use the 1/8 dot. I didn't like dots period until I started this game. The 1/8 dot is small enough at 50 yards that it helps.

I preferred the cross hair and still do if your eyes are good enough. But a couple of years ago I switched to the dot when it became difficult to find the cross hair and took a shot using a line on the target as my cross hair. 
Needless to say that shot didn't get me any points.
