Feed ramp polishing

What is the best way to polish a feed ramp on a Mdl 700 stainless? I have a new one with some pretty heavy tool marks on it.

I’ve had good luck using a Dremel or similar tool with Cratex cone attachments.
To get the best working angle reach in from the magazine cutout and you can easily do a respectable looking job.

Do you think I should use a small, fine sanding drum first to remove most of the tool marks or just go straight to the cratex?

I haven’t found a real need to use a sanding drum attachment. The few ramps I have polished had deep machine marks that remained after polishing. My objective has been to soften the rough machining to the point where cartridges no longer left a copper “trail’ on the ramp. Medium and fine grit Cratex cones have been enough to achieve that goal.

Dusty it's not jamming but I'm getting some deformation of the bullet on the nose and a copper trail on the ramp as L. E. Hanson mentioned. The action is bead blasted from the factory and I'm sure that is part of the problem.

yea I hate that. cratex will get it done. if its too bad maybe put some JB weld on it first to smooth it up.
