Federal match primers - need an alternative

I use federal large match rifle primers in a couple of rifles and am running out. I cannot get any over here in the UK in decent numbers and am told this will not change till 2012?!?!?!

I know I will have to do load redevelopment but are any of the other brands similar i.e CCI etc...

Rich, the CCI BR2 will do very well for you in most cases (better in some). If you have access to the Russian manufactured primers, sold in the US under the PMC or Wolf labels, give them a serious try as well.

I use winchester WLR in most of my guns. I just had a gun rebarreled and my gunsmith worked me up a load using 210m primers because i was in a pinch for time when i get the gun back. I ran out of 210m and had to hurry up and bye BR2 primers thinking that they would be close. Before i went to the match that weekend, i talked to a buddy that has been shooting the 1,000yd game for a long time. He told me he's always had problems with the BR2 primer's when he tried them. I went to the match and tried them. Out of 30 rounds, i had 9 rounds that the primers failed to light. I took the same box of primers the next week and loaded 50 rounds for practice. Not one failed. As long as i have been shooting WLR's i never had a problem. I load 2 6.5 x 284 guns and a 300wsm with them and they work fine. WLR's are a little hotter, not much more. On my 300wsm i worked 2 loads. 1st load 2906 fps, i had 16 for ES and 5.83 for SD. My 2nd load 2877fps, i had 14.38 ES and 6.32 for SD. I also have seen guy's shoot BR2's all season long and it did'nt seem that they had a problem.
 
CCI br2s

I had the same problem going from Fed 210M's. Many failure to fires. Never one with the Federals.
 
Thanx for the replies, is the concensus so far that the large rifle CCI are prone to misfires? I have only used CCI in small rifle and found them very good?
 
I don't think the lack of ignition of the CCI PRIMERS is a primer failure. I have had numerous non ignition occurences with both large rifle and small pistol primers but have found that replacing the fireing pin springs solved the Problem!
 
CCI Primers

Failure to ignite is mainly a problem with CCI primers because they have such a tough cup. They need to be struck harder than Feds so a spring replacement may be in order.
 
Got to conclude...

That the problem is because they are too "hard" or thick because I was shooting a new rifle with just 105 rounds thru it when I tried them.

I wonder if they are not intentionally made thicker because BR shooters usually run loads pretty hot.
 
I have been using CCI large rifle primers since 1970 in many different rifles and never had one not fire!!!! According to CCI the only difference between the 200 and the BR2 is that the production line is slowed down for the BR2 for better quality control. :):):):):):):)
