Factory ammo?

How rare is it to find defects with factory ammo? Other than shotgun shells, it's once about every 50 years for me to even purchase the stuff.

I have purchased a considerable amount of Lapua factory ammo and so far have only had one cartridge that was a problem. Would not fit in my No Turn Neck chamber. A 6.5x47 Lapua round. The other 49 in the box were perfect. Can't remember any other problems with factory metallic ammo, but as you alluded to, have had lots of issues with factory shot shells.

My reference to shotgun shells was that those are the only factory ammo that I buy. Never had an issue with them. I've left them in the pockets of my coveralls and had them go through the clothes washer and they still fired. I expect that round with the squished primer will still go bang. Since I don't load for the .243 I was relegated to buying factory ammo for now.
