F-Class Class

Get ready for the 2013 F-Class World Championships.

Trinidad State Junior College in cooperation with the NRA Summer Gunsmithing program is going to host a 5 day Intro to F-Class Shooting 5-9 July in Trinidad, Colorado.

Anyone wanting to improve their FC scores or learning how to shoot F-Class should consider attending this class. See links below.

The course will cover every aspect of F-Class shooting including but not limited to: Selecting the best equipment and caliber, how to shoot a match and do well, doping the wind at long-range, reloading for L-R, ammo testing to win, team shooting, mental conditioning and match winning strategy. While most of the course will consist of class work, 2 days of range time will include demonstrations and student participation at L-R up to 1,000 yards at the Whittington Center, Raton, NM.

The class days will precede the Rocky Mountain Palma Championships and Long range Regional held at the NRA Whittington Center July 10-15.

What a treat!

Larry Bartholome is a legend in F-Class and for those that do not know, he has been a past captain of the US F-Class Open Team and been on every World Championship Team.

He is an incredible shooter and an unselfish resource of information much of which you will not find in books and would take you years to learn. If you have the time, take this class.

Larry,

How are you doing on enrollment for the class at TSJC? Are you short of a minimum enrollment? nhk

We are bit short on enrollment. The only publicity has been the College web site and I decided to post here so interested shooters would learn of the class. I was lucky to have high level mentors to guide me along when I started shooting 47 years ago and would like to help others get better. If you are new to F-Class or serious about your shooting and want to better your scores I am sure I can help.

I'm already signed up for the AR-15 and welding class so far. Have been considering the stock making classes as well. Been seriously thinking about throwing a scope on my Palma rifle and going F-Class so maybe now would be the time to do it. Also trying to work in the benchrest matches at Raton in between classes. What an embarrassment of riches.

Jerry,

Your Palma should work fine as an F/TR rifle; add a scope and bipod and off you go. Weight of everything together needs to be less than 18 lbs 2.5 oz to be legal. To take the class you don’t have to have F-Class equipment. I will have rifles for range use.

Hope to see you there.

Larry I have an 8-32 Sightron scope in the box, a Ken Farrell 20MOA sight base and a Harris bipod I could put on the accessory rail of my Millennium Palma rifle. Would I need a skid of some kind to add to the butt plate to ride on a rear bag or figure out a way to attach a mono-pod to the rear?

Jerry,

Mono-pods are not allowed in F-Class. If your Millennium has one of those metal/screw/wood butt stocks then you would probably have to add a skid to the butt stock to ride the rear bag. Your other gear looks good.

Yeah, the butt stock is basically Anschutz, so skid will be the way. I'll have to ponder and get creative to invent something.
My Friday lunch posse is trying to talk me into going to the Bald Eagle mid-range match at Raton 11-13 June. As the AR-15 class starts on 14 June that would be a good fit.

Been looking over the class schedule to see how my other classes fit with yours. I had signed up for the gunsmith welding class in late July but see that there is one the week before yours. I'll have to change that. You know, looking over the class offering, I could spend the whole summer there as there is at least one class every week that interests me. I took the Brownells 1911 handgun class last summer and it was outstanding. :D
