Any suggestions on lube for sizing 6.5 up to 7mm? Brass is 6.5-284 Lapua, caliber is standard 284.

Thanks,
Dennis

I like the Lee lube that comes in a small plastic tube. I've upsized necks for 358 Winchesters, 35 Whelens, and recently 6BRX for fireforming and have no complaints. I apply it with a small Q-tip on the insides of the neck. It only takes a moment to apply. What I like about it over other lubes is the fact that it dries and does not become greasy. I still wipe out the necks after sizing with a little paper toweling over a Q-tip. I've had very few problems with splitting necks and with good quality brass...none.

I use a 50/50 combination of white mica and powdered moly, both available from Midway, for expanding necks before turning. I found that white mica alone didn't do the job. Moly alone leaves a significant amount in the necks which coats the barrel similar to moly coated bullets.

This combo should work well for up-sizing as well. I put about 1/2 inch of copper plated #5 shot in a shot glass and mix the mica and moly in with it. Then just twist each neck into the shot and they're dry lubed. It eliminates the problem of powder sticking to a wet lubed neck.............especially if you have to dump the powder.

I also use this procedure for lubing necks prior to bullet seating. It's proven to reduce groups in 500 yard testing in ideal conditions.

I was using Imperial Die wax last night doing the same thing you're trying to do. I wasn't having any fun at all. So, I decided to try the Assembly Lube that I use when I turn necks. What a difference! They slid over the mandrel like...well...really easy. That was the last thing I was using the Die Wax for. I doubt that it will ever make it's way out of the drawer again.
