Eric Johnson rifle

Good evening and a Happy New Year to all, I'm a newbie here and I'm hoping for some information here. I would post some pictures, but my rifle is back home in good ole NC, and I work and live for now in Alabama. I purchased a gun collection back in 1988 or 1989 with 27 weapons and one of them was an Eric Johnson rifle for which I obtained the build sheet. I realize that you can't put a value on somthing without seeing it, but I'm just curious what I have other than the most accurate rifle that I've ever shot. The rifle has a curly maple stock with a brass buttplate and it is a Winchester 52 action with a 5 rnd magazine. The rifle also has a J Unertl 10 power scope and of the Eric Johnson stainless bull barrell. I will post some pictures as soon as I can, but I'm curious what a rifle like this might be worth. It really is a beautiful rifle, and it is definitely a benchrest rifle, due to the weight of it. I have taken it a few times over the last 20 somthing years and shot it, but I'm always amazed at how well it shoots. I apreciate any help on this and I can't wait to post some pictures for you guys to see it.

Thanks Renny

You may want to throw something up over at the ASSRA site as there is a fair amount of familiarity with his work there as well as a fewe owners.

If you will do a search on this forum and Rimfire Central you will get a lot of info. Didn't know Eric Johnson did stainless barrels. The last year he made them was in1965. What are the marks on the barrel? I have seen his rifles in excellent shape sell from $500-$1000 dollars. The provenance means as much as anything with his rifles. Records are available to identify if you have a true Eric Johnson Rifle.

I appreciate the info, and I wondered about stainless as well. The barrel apears to be stainless, but I don't know if it is or not. It does not look like any blued barrel that I have ever seen. I got the shop notes Rudi Priosk at the ASSRA for $10.00. The notes say that it was built in either 1942 or 1946 and the Winchester 52s serial # dates to 1932. The notes that I received are in my gun safe back home in NC, but it has the fellows name and his hometown as well. I know the rifle is an Eric Johnson by is name on the barell and it also has stars on it. I had to look at the underside to get his serial# though. I will post pictures for you because as I said it is a pretty rifle. The scope that I mentioned the J Unertl 10 power, I understand is rather expensive and I have never shot benchrest before, is that what you guys use. Thanks again for the info.

I'm certainly not saying yours is not a Johnson rifle. I don't know that he ever did a stainless though. Unertls have not been used in BR competition for maybe 30 years by serious competitors. They are nice scopes, but too heavy and don't track well enough for BR.
