I am finishing up with my first nice rifle. I want the caliber engraved on the barrel. Is there a correct name for this? How exactly is this done? Need a little help.

Thanks,

Robert

Is chemical etching something that can be purchased commercially through brownells? And done in my workshop?

Thanks,

Robert

Yes you can. I was offered a set from a member here On br central but I lost his contact info before I had the cash to purchase the set. I still am wanting to learn the process myself. Pretty much appears the sky is the limit with the etch o matic system. I have a logo in mind I would like to place on my barrels. I think the etch system makes a lot of since. Lee

There is a guy on Home Gun Smithing .com that a little device that does this that he sells.

The method/machine Eddie uses does a very nice job, very deep etch. I have the Etch-o-matic thing. what makes a difference is: type out what you want in their blue paper, cut it down to a workable size. Place it on the barrel aligned the way you want it, and tape it in place so there is no slack in the paper. Wet down the fiber pad, then use that little thingy they give you that has the alligator clip, it changes things to DC if I remember, leave it the for 30 seconds or so. Then, take that clip off, and put the pad back on. It does 100% better using that clip first.
