Hey guys I stumbled on this lathe made in 2000. The lathe by itself with Spider, quick change tool post, steady rest and two Chinese chucks, ( a three and four Jaw) is $2000. It runs well and the ways are spotless.

There are a bunch of extras including some tools for holding model 70 and Rem 700 actions for blue printing.

The lathe was bought for home gunsmith work and was not used much. Just wanted to know if you were in my shoes would you pull the trigger? And also some of your experiences with Enco lathes, obtaining parts etc.

I have two days to get some responses from you before I have to make a decision.

The lathe was owned by a man who built ultralights and he just recently died.

Sorry, it says 1.5" in the manual. I was trying to remember what the person selling it told me as he was wielding his tape measure.
 
I have that same lathe and I feel it works very well for BR gunsmithing on a budget. It easily takes a typical LV or HV barrel through the headstock.

I also bought mine used more than ten years ago and have only needed to replace the emergency stop push switch. I didn't bother buying from Enco, so I can't comment on parts availability.

In the condition you described, I think it's worth every penny of that $2000.

Not knowing all of the tooling coming with it, it alone could easily add up to be a hug chunk of change. Worse case if you feel you need more lathe down the road I think you could keep all the tooling and still easily get your money back. One has to start some where and this might be as good a place as any and I would do so for its worth.

It appears to come with a bunch of boring bars, a whole bunch of aluminum stock, a bunch of calipers and guages, a large roll around tool cabinet, a an action vise with adapters for different actions. A bunch of collets that were made by the guy for different barrel profiles, and some other stuff that I am unsure of the use. I wish I could be more precise.

The extra stuff is going to cost more however. Not sure of the price yet.
