What is the difference other than one is flat and one is round,is there a certain situation where one is preffered,or is simply which one your gun shoots best? My gun seems to shoot them both well in calm conditions.

Someone on another forum ask the question "how could a bullet with a flat nose be better than a round nose". I did a somewhat valid test to calculate the BC of both. Since I have only one chronograph, I measured the velocity of 10 rounds at 10 feet and 10 rounds at 148 feet and using the average velocity, I came up with a BC for SK STD + RN at .154, The Eley RN at .153 and the Eley "flat nose" at .175. This test was done at 7000 feet so I don't know how good the numbers are. But I would suspect that difference is indicative of the actual difference between the RN and the FN. So you would think that the FN would be less wind sensitive.

Hey guys,
I was just talking about this with a friend of mine this afternoon. Look at the face of your bullets and see if the "flat" is flat indeed, or an off center 3/4 moon punch.
As far as the flat v. round goes...I also like to shoot BRPC. There was one old guy who would challenge anyone to a match by seating his bullet backwards in the chamber (we seat our bullets then insert the cartridge). He won every time
because he knew something that we did not, and never would have thought of.
I'm so far from being an engineer of any sort, but if it works....

last fall when i was tuning my rifle i had one lot of round nose eley 10x and 7 lots of the new flat nose. i kept getting one flier everytime. when i got to watching the round nose was that one flier everytime. always high and left just outside the group everytime.

there is some kind of difference. what it is i don't know. don't care. as long as my rifle shoots well enough and i can do my part is all i care about myself. if it works i have learned not to try to figure out why and to just be glad it works for me.

Silhouette and EPS

I shoot RF Silhouette using Eley with the "EPS" nose. I believe that the new nosed bulelts are less affected by wind. BUT, I have not tested side by side.

Remember though that "EPS" stands for Eley Priming System, not the nose shape. Coincidentally, the flat nose with the dimple came out about the same time the new terms tarted to be used - I believe.

I believe the round nosed bullets are superior when loading from a magazine. However, most of the shooters that I know who are shooting for the ultimate in benchrest accuracy are shooting the flat nosed kind.
