Ejector Spring Question

Does anyone make/sell a reduced energy ejector spring for a Rem #700 bolt.
Thanks

Michael this is a good question.

Most folks will tell you to "snip a coil off" ........ And this does work, kinda'.

Problem with just shortening the spring is, you haven't much changed the cyclic rate, you've just shortened the throw. The general "fix" is to snip a coil or two and then, when you get it too short, to stretch the spring.

I've made them from spring stock found in Brownell's general purpose spring packs.

I hope that someone comes on with a specific part number or spring from another firearm or another part which works better. I too am looking for a reduced rate spring, something repeatable as opposed to just cutting and stretching until you get close. :)

Brownell's sells a spring kit #025-069-000AB that contains two 12" lengths of each of six springs that has a size that works well for lightening the ejectors in Remington and most other rifles with button ejectors. Just cut a piece the length you want and you can have an ejector that will just lift the case head off the bolt face of kick it out of the action. The price is ~$12, and it's a good deal. Springs in there that work in Rem triggers too. ;)

I've cut all of mine. Some have been used for over ten years since cut and no problems, eject the same today as ten years ago when it was done. Never stretched one though....I don't recommend that.

Gentlemen,

Not to hijack the thread, but since we're talking about shortening springs and cutting coils, what is the correct way to flatten out the end of a spring after cutting it? Previously, I have ground the freshly cut end with a bench grinder, but have not been totally impressed by the results. They come out quasi flat. Is there a better way to do it?

Thanks,
Justin

I use a set of electroni needle nose pliers (very small) and grip the last coil, then use a fine metal file and make a few passes...works well.

Take the spring (under the flint) out of a regular-size Bic lighter and have a look at it..........It might be just what you're looking for.

Light Spring for Remington Extractor

Darrel Holland stocks a "soft" extractor spring for Remingtons. They are much better than clipping the factory spring, but they are a little pricey. One of the big industrial suppliers might be able to match the wire size and dimensions.
