ebay buying experience

I decided that I had to have a 1-2" thread micrometer. I found an electronic one on ebay that was new and Buy it now for $199.99 with free shipping. So I bought it with paypal on the 21st.. An hour or two later I received an email from the seller saying that he was out of stock so he was canceling the sale and was refunding my money. His page had said that more than 10 were available and one had been sold. This sounded kind of fishy to me so I responded to him that his current page for the micrometer now had the price at $229.99 and $5.00 for shipping. He insisted that he was out of stock but I doubt that. He just wanted more money. I investigated the revisions to the ad and sure enough it showed that he had upped the price for the item and shipping shortly after canceling my purchase.

So, I bought my second choice which was a used mechanical micrometer. I was swayed because it was made in Poland and my parents came from there. Now the neat thing. The seller for this one shipped it via USPS priority mail on Saturday and I received it today. That was from Massachusetts to Texas over the weekend. The seller packed this one far better than if probably was when it came of of the factory. I'm gonna give this guy the highest rating I can on ebay. His ID is moto-5000.

Now a comparison with UPS. I ordered some pest control devices from an outfit in Oregon on the 21st. Tracking data show that the package was entered in to the UPS system on the 21st but didn't leave the Oregon area until this morning and is scheduled to be delivered on the 28th. I'm beginning to realize that the best way to get stuff via UPS is to order on Sunday on the web.

Hey Jerry,
Some of these guys enter the info in the system. but, It might be a couple of days before they get to town......Or the ABC driver picks it up.....Or some one like Midway, they fill a trailer and have to wait on UPS for a driver.
I worked for a company that had a sweet heart deal with the shipper. But, they would not move the trailer till it was 75-80% full. It might sit there 7-10 days.
 
What I've noticed through looking at tracking results, is that if a package hits a transfer hub on Friday it usually sits there for the weekend. When someone sends me a package via Priority mail 2 day, I get it in two business days. Maybe the government ought to have the post office deliver packages and have UPS handle the junk mail.
 
My last 2 shipments. From our favorite suppliers. UPS to a USPS station. An extra day or 2 ..........It works I get my package.
I have had the delivery guy claim they could not find my house. Usually on a Friday.......
