I'm new to owning a CMP 40X. I'd like to know if its ok to dry fire these or are they like other rimfires and might damage firing pin etc? This is the older standard barrel model.

When I shot prone rimfire, about everybody this side of the world kept a couple of handfuls of brass from their rifle & dry fired uisng that to cushion the firing pin fall & protect the chamber.

Sometimes a rifle has trouble extracting a "second hit" case.
With no chamber pressure to start it back against the bolt face those little guys can really stick in the chamber.
Good idea to have a cleaning rod or small screwdriver handy or it might bring your day at the range to a sudden end.
But still - a good idea to use a spent case.

It's best to use the little orange snap-caps from Brownell's, the red ones are okay but the orange ones are better. Thanks, Douglas

Go to your friendly hardware store and buy a box of 100 #4 ribbed plastic wall anchors (yellow color). Cheap, simple rim matches the .22 rim and fits the chamber like a glove. Kiss principle. You can even rotate the anchor for more dryfires..make a perfect firing pin indent.
