Not the zero is not where it needs to be....I think there is a little tool (which I don't have) that you can stick down into the dial.
What is the procedure & what can use in it's place??

Mitutoyo calipers
Paul: I'm holding my 6" Mitutoyos' in my hand, heve the instruction sheet and the very small brass "adjuster", they call it. Material is .006" thick & .067" wide, with a small off-set at the tip that measures .032" wide x .080" deep. If interested, e-mail your mailing address & I'll have a copy of the instruction sheet, with exact dimension detailed drawing of the adjuster, & will "snail mail" it asap. My HP PSC will not scan, so cannot send the info & dimensions as an attachment. fdshuster@hotmail.com

i feel ya Paul. i dropped my Mit about a year ago.
i wil type for you from the instructions.
clean the jaws and close.
if the deviation is within 10 simply rotate the dial.
deviations over 10 will have to be reset with the adjuster.
clean the rack.
rotate the bevel to top 0.
open the jaws 10-20mm bringing the pionter just on 0.
for .1" insert the adjuster and close the jaws while the pionter does not move.
remove the adjuster and adjust the bezel to 0.
the adjuster is a small P shaped flat wire .038 thick, .058 wide, and 1 inch long after the loop on the p.

Thanks....had to grind a large needle but worked like a charm & measurements are OK if the shims I have are correct.

I don't mind the ones I can fix.....2nd time it happened & have had them for years.
It bounced to 9:00 & & noon is where it should be. HAD to fix asap. Reloading was so much more relaxing before I had kids
My mutts knocked my Beretta 682 into the caliche after an awsome whitewing hunt a couple years ago, so I only tear up when deserving.

As Stiller said that is why there is Harbor Freight.
At $15.-17.00 a pop the Harbor freight calipers don't cause so much pain when dropped. I use micrometers to mesure with and calipers to just get close. Once dropped you will never trust them again for work less than .0015"

+1 for what Rustystud said.
Besides that. As I get older, I leave stuff all over the shop, buy six pairs of the above and strew them all over the shop and I don't have to hunt any of them up. Mighty handy to have a bunch of them cheap.
Just remember you can only trust them for ball park figures anyway.

I trust it...
....had several cases trimmed and noted.
They were the same after the adjustment. This mit. is a tough booger....bounced of my shoe then the carpet.
Concrete or tile may have me feeling different.

15? That would cause me to buy a truck load of batteries. If I don't remember to turn off mine, it's new battery time. Luckily I can find the 357 batteries everywhere.

Mine turns off after about a minute. I keep two or three on the table and take the batteries out of the other ones and put them in the frig until one goes dead.
