A lesson on tuners: As you can see by the photos, I decided to see what opposing magnets would offer in conjunction to a regular tuner. I milled a flat on the bottom of the knurled section of the tuner body and tried to get it in the proper position so it'd be directly above the stock mounted magnet. I then glued a magnet to that flat. The tuner magnet wasn't perfect so I padded the jaws of a set of channel locks and, using medium force, turned it to where it clocked just right.
Saturday, I was able to use the tuner weights to tune the rifle but almost every group had a flier or usually shot a three and two group. I went home and while sleeping Saturday night, I awoke thinking "YOU CAN'T OVER-TIGHTEN ANYTHING AT THE MUZZLE OF A GUN!!!!!!" I got up yesterday, Loosened the tuner and re-tightened it with my bare hands and took it to the range. The fliers disappeared and so did the three and two groups. I'll assume that the over tight tuner was the culprit.
Did the combination magnets&weights tuner shoot better than a tuner alone? Damned if I know, All I can claim is that the gun was shooting well in the creepy conditions Sunday. Tinker Toy, with a light contour barrel, still weighed less than 10 lbs.
