DoAll 17 Manual

I'm a relative newbie to this forum but from what I've been able to see it is a well informed and civilized group. I actually have two requests...
  1. A source where I might be able to find an operating manual for the DoALL 17 Lathe. This will be the lathe my machinist friend will oversee my 260 Rem build and chambering. I would like to get introduced to it through the manual prior to any practice work.
  2. Can anyone please clarify some cartridge/chamber nomenclature? Is "freebore" and "leade" used interchangeably or are they two totally different things? Neck & throat? Maybe the simplist method would be to direct me to a diagram of these terms.
All information will be appreciated.

Here is a reamer blueprint for you viewing pleasure :D While you are looking at the blueprint really pay attention to the actual dimensions. The blueprint is NOT to scale.

you should also go look in the SAAMI glossary. you will discover that not all use the terms the same/correctly.
make sure your reamer maker and you are talking the same.

DoAll A Rare Bird...

DoAll lathes are not all that common. Some of them had neat features like an automatic kick out of the threading half-nut at a preset carriage travel location. This enabled threading up close to a shoulder at higher speeds.

In any case you might try this guy. He has a ton of information on many lathes though I did not see DoAll specifically listed. Many lathes are manufactured by the same factory to the same specs but wear the different badges of the various distribution companies.

DoALL 17

Thanks for the all help; it certainly was informative and insightful. Your assistance was appreciated and helped me.

They Do Have A 17" DoALL Manual Copy

It turns out that they do have a copy of the 17" DoAll manual. As noted in the web page, later DoAll's were UK-made Harrisons. The manual is not cheap and is probably a Xerox copy of an original. But that is usually the case when dealing with machines made in limited numbers.
