Short answer: No, it'll be around long after the cockroaches take over.
Long answer: Sorta/kinda/sometimes. . .
On boomer class magnums with certain actions I've seen the lug surfaces peen a bit and goof with the headspace. This can be traced back usually to a combination of things like material selection, heat treat, surface area, and/or someone getting a little frisky at the reloading bench.
This is why I advocate tossing the NO GO gauge and using a GO gauge in combination with .001" shim stock so that headspace can be checked and documented over the lifespan of a gun; especially the big bruisers. If it's GO+.002" on day one and GO+.008" a thousand rounds later then you know something is moving and how much!
Just somethin to consider. . .
Cheers,
Chad
