Would someone be kind enough to explain the different rimfire shooting categories please? I might be interested in doing some competition, but obviously I should know what classes there are. Is there a website I can check out that will tell me what I need to know? I already know that I am not interested in anything where multiples thousands of dollars for a rifle, and more thousands are needed for ammo. A class with slightly modified factory rifles, and by factory i mean wal-mart shelf-type rifle, not something like an Anshutz match, is what im envisioning. Is there such a class?
To let you all know where I am coming from. I am 27, spent almost 4 years in the Army, 1 tour in Iraq, I grew up around guns and LOVE shooting....shotguns/upland hunting, rimfires, and smallbore centerfires mostly. AND I am Left-handed......which makes things slightly difficult.
I own a 2000ish Win. 9422 with a $25 BSA 4x32 scope. With that setup and most any 40gr round I can shoot a dime-sized hole at 25yds with, and can hit a 20oz soda bottle 95% of the time at well over 100yds. I also have an OLD Win. Pump .22LR which may be worthwhile checking its accuracy potential, BUT its optic is terrible and the extractor is not reliable so some $$ would need to be spent first. I also have a 1942 Win M70 in .270WCF that my great-grandfather bought new, and a 2000ish Ithaca M37 12ga.
Some additions Id like to make are an off the shelf 10/22 target with an upgraded trigger assy and scope specific to the ammo i decide to use, the new 10/22 takedown, the new CZ 455 Varmint Evolution in .17HMR and .22LR likewise with a specific scope, and the T/C Dimension in .204, .223, .308, and either .30-06 or .300 Win Mag. I plan to get a CMP M1 Garand, and also want a simple over-under 12ga.
So thats where I am and where Id like to be in a nutshell.
Thanks for your input.
