DGA bedding

I recently acquired a shilen DGA with out a recoil lug. It appears to be a glue in affair but that doesnt work for my project. The cartridge will be 243AI with 95-107gr bullets. I would assume it needs a recoil lug and the tang wont cut it. The stock is a HS precision with that aluminum block which I intend to relieve and bed over.

Should I just sandwich a standard (rem type) lug or...

could mill a negative lug recess in the bottom of the receiver, don't want to though

any thoughts? skys the limit and I have a well equipped machine shop.

I have a single shot rifle that I made on one of the original Farley castings. It uses the tang for the recoil lug in a McMillan hunter class stock. The chambering is .280 Remington. I wouldn't worry about using the tang for the recoil lug on a .243 Ackley as it would have less recoil than the .280. All the recoil lug does anyway is prevent the action from moving rearward in the stock. If you're concerned about it undercut the area at the tang and reinforce it with plenty of bedding compound. A fiberglass stock wouldn't have any problems, but I wouldn't want to use the tang for the recoil lug with a wood stock on anything with much recoil. If your tang has no bearing surface in say a Remington type inlet, then you'd need some kind of lug and wouldn't be able to use the tang. An aftermarket recoil lug sandwiched between the receiver face and barrel shoulder would be the simplest way to go.
