I did my first bedding job last night using Devcon. Savage in wood stock.
We'll see how easy it comes apart. I think I used plenty of kiwi polish.

1. How long should I let the Devcon cure before I try to pull it apart?

2. How long before the Devcon is completely cured?

3. How long cure before I use the rifle? Question 2 probably answers 3.

Thanks.

I normally let the stuff cure for about 12 hours and then pop the bbled action out CAREFULLY. I then don't mess with it for another couple of days.

Before you pop the action out look at the unused glue on whatever you mixed it on. If it is hard and brittle when you bend it then you mixed it right and you can feel confident about popping it apart.

After the stock has set a couple of days one of the things I do is 'break the edges' of the bedding. Like the joint of the recoil lug to the action. This sharp edge will be fragile and if you don't break the edges you will probably knock off tiny chunks which will be trapped between the action and the bedding. You only need to have about a .010" chamfer.

I also slightly break the edges of the actual recoil lug after I bed the action. I don't want the edges carrying any load. The large surfaces are supposed to carry the load.

Thanks CRB

The epoxy on the board was hard and brittle..I got up several times last night and before I left work this morning and turned the action screws back and forth just to make sure they were not locked though I released the hell out of those and the bolts.

I wanted to pop it out tonight but didn't want to take a chance on rushing things and doing it too soon. Sounds like I can take it out tonight.

I thought about radiusing that area between the recoil lug and the action and probably will. I may not need to since I put a very tiny bit of modeling clay around the joint where the action and recoil lug meet. Just enought to make sure nothing got in that joint.

I'm anxious to see how it turned out.

Of course I mixed about 3 times too much Devcon....guess you learn that from experience.

Thanks for your advice.
