Based on a 54:18 (Anschutz 22LR) barreled action. Some of you may not choose this action, but it is the basic premise of the game.

So, start with a blank sheet of paper and a 54:18 barreled action with 5018 trigger (Some say the BEST trigger out there). No constraints, so go wild, be conservative or be reasonable, your choice. Pick the components, work to be done and the gunsmith. Post sample pictures if you can. And, by they way I didn't necessarily say a BR gun!

I was lucky enough to win a 54:18 actioned barrel and have no idea what I am going to do with it yet. I am looking for ideas. It should be fun! :D

BTW, Hi to all, this is my first post on Benchrest Central Forum. Duh! I thought to kick things off with a bang.:p

All these experts and no opinion!? Impossible. Come on guys, I am very interested in your opinion, Put it out there, lets hear it.

You ask for very complex input and it would require a lot of detail to give you a comprehensive answer but for the sake of breaking ground on your suggested project here goes.

If it were me with a 54:18 barreled action building a gun for myself, it would be a benchrest gun and I'd start with a stock like this one inleted for the 54:18 barrel and action:

This would be outfitted with either one of Roger Von Ahrens new tuners with weights or a Ron Hohen tuner with the Von Ahrens weights and I'd scope it with either a Weaver T-36 or a Sightron SII Big Sky 36X competition scope.

As to gunsmith, I do all my own work, so can't help you much there...

Happy shooting,
Mitch & Shadow...

Help with design

Along with the rimfire forum, I suggest you give your question a few days for answers. Many very knowledgible shooters and gun builders frequent this forum and they are happy to help out a new guy, but they may only check the forum every few days or even less often. This kind of project will likely come out better if you take time to do plenty of research before deciding what you want to do.

Have you explored the archives using key words like "custom Anschutz" etc? There are years of records and some posts have pictures and a wealth of information. Good luck with your project!

Thanks everyone for your replies so far. I will give it more time. I think this is going to end-up being a fun project for the Fall/Winter nights. I like to do some of the work myself. In the mean time, I have my 1710HB, 1717D, My two 64 action, and CZ's to keep me company.
