Dave Shattuck and Paul Bendix Battle It Out @ Pinnacle

All in all we had a good day. The temperature was a bit on the cool side, 45° to 50°, and the wind was a little less than cooperative, 5 to 15 MPH and switchy, but it didn't seem to matter a whole lot since the sun was out, the black flies were few and we were all back together again and enjoying one anothers company for the first time in over 7 months.

This season I have scheduled all of our AGBR matches to immediately follow the conclusion of the IR 50/50 portion of our schedule. After we got done with the rimfires we packed them up and a few headed out for home. But there were a few who stuck around for our AGBR match, mostly out of curiosity. I had been hoping for more shooters, but you can't always have what you wish for.

Paul Bendix and myself shot our Theoben AZ Unlimited guns, his in .22 cal and mine in .177, while Todd Banks and Kathy (soon to be Mrs. Banks) along with Al and Penny Hadfield and Mike Gallant stayed to watch. By the end of our first target it was only Todd and Kathy who were still sitting there. So, I figured since I had failed at convincing Todd earlier to join us, why not let him give it a go between targets while Paul and I were scoring ...plus before he got away. Well, I'm not sure, but romur has it that he's now been making some inquires about buying one of these great little guns.

The final results for the airgun portion of our match are as follows:
UL-1
1.) DAVE SHATTUCK 232-2x

2.) Paul Bendix 201-0x

UL-2
1.) DAVE SHATTUCK 242-3x

2.) Paul Bendix 234-3x

UL-3
1.) PAUL BENDIX 235-3x

2.) Dave Shattuck 235-0x

Earlier in the day we had 9 shooters, which for us was our largest regular match in quite some time. Al and Penny Hadfield had been the ones who took the day though! Not only did they SPLIT the money from our "Line Shoot", but Al won the 10.5# Class shooting a 250-17x, and Penny followed his lead by taking the 13.5# Class with a 248-12x.

When all was said and done, the results looked like this:
SPORTER CLASS
1.) DAVE SHATTUCK 246-12x
(personal best)
2.) Penny Hadfield 245-8x
3.) Todd Banks 241-8x

10.5# CLASS
1.) AL HADFIELD 250-17X

2.) Penny Hadfield 248-16x
3.) Michael Gallant 248-11x

13.5# CLASS
1.) PENNY HADFIELD 248-10x

2.) Michael Gallant 247-8x
3.) Todd Banks 245-12x

I absolutely have to thank everyone for all of their help as, without it, the match would have never been able to happen. You folks took care of the things I am not able to do right now, and you did so without my ever asking. That means a lot to me!

Some great shooting especially with the wind

Did you get Al and Penny to try a target with your air gun?

We've been working on it, but I think it will have to wait until it's just the three of us sitting around at their range. It'll happen, just not yet.

Hi Ron,

No, Penny and I haven't tried the Puff guns yet. I have to admit that after the IR match this ol' boy is kind'a pooped and is ready to head for the barn. Getting up at 04:00 and driving for 2 1/2 hours makes for a long day. As Dave said, we will be giving the AGs a try before too long. Looking forward to it.

Dave,
The rumors are correct(if you call my post on this forum a rumor:D),I did enjoy shooting your Theoben, and will be buying an Airgun in the near future. I'm leaning towards a Walther LGR and/or a FWB300 and maybe I'll work my way up the a PCP rig later.

I'll be checking the AGBR site for match requirements and seeing if I can find someone else to shoot with here at Salem. It wouldn't take much to modify our indoor range to shoot matches during the winter, either. And one of the most appealing aspects for me...I can shoot in my backyard!

Todd

Thanks Ron,
I talked to another shooter, Dan Gibeault, that is very interested in shooting AGBR, so it looks like we've got enough shooters to hold matches.

I read the rule book last night, and will be sending in an order/sanctioning form soon....Now all I need is an Airgun!

Todd,

Welcome aboard, and my apologies to Kathy. It wasn't fair of me to hook you in like that as I know darn well once you had a chance to sit behind one, it would be all over! But, just think, now you can buy 'em two at a time: one for you, and one for the future Mrs. Banks. Yupp, you definitely have enough interest out there to hold matches, indoors or out. Oh, and by the way, why wait until winter to hold the indoor matches?

Hopefully, still your friend,

Dave

Dave,
The club will let me do just about anything I want to do outdoors, and pay for it, within reason, because the founding fathers are mainly 50ft pistol shooters. They don't really care what goes on outside, and they like the money the BR matches bring in. Indoors is a different story. The club president just tried to get them to modify the indoor range for 3P shooting and got shot down(pardon the pun). It might take a little politicking to get them to let me cut holes between the meeting room and the indoor range. I'll need more than two shooters to convince them, but I think it'll happen eventually.
Todd
