Is the CZ-453 Varmint rifle a very good or just average for accuracy... for the money? Is it good enough to shoot Benchrest with?

CZ 453 for Bench rest?
I bought a CZ 453 about six months ago and find it to be a very accurate rifle for non competition bench rest shooting! It is more accurate then my Kimber Bull Barrel bench rest type rifle! At 25 yards you should expect 1/4 inch groups or even smaller. At 50 yards it is consistently shooting half inch groups.
Your accuracy will depend on the quality of the ammo you use, the scope you mount, the type of rest you use and of course your skill!
If you are talking about bench rest shooting in a non competitive way then the 453 will provide a lot of accuracy and satisfaction. I enjoy shooting it with Federal Automatch ammo from Wal-Marts and it does a good job. Lot of fun and not expensive to shoot.
But, if you are referring to competitive Bench rest shooting in the ARA type matches then you will be completely out of the running!
So, bottom line, in my opinion, CZ453 a fantastic rifle using a good scope and good ammo with a competent shooter is very accurate and will provide a lot of fun. In a serious competitive match, it simply will not compete! Again, my opinion only.

Some clubs have a factory or plinker class to go with the custom rifles so that most everyone can compete from the bench with a .22.
The CZ will hold it's own in the factoy class and you would have a good chance of winning.

I have a 453 varmint nd think it's great. Like has been said, not for high-level unlimited BR competition. But, for matches where you shoot original equipment (not custom guns) the gun will do real well. I have found that my tuner is little of no help on the short stiff barrel. The set trigger is outstanding.

I started shooting benchrest with a CZ 452 Varmint and I learned a whole lot about the sport with it. I use it now with silhouettes and it is a very good rifle for that purpose. Mine will shoot very good groups at 50 yards with Lapua ammo but my 40X bench rifle will beat it.
