Custom Rifle?

At what point does a rifle become a custom rifle?
barrel change?
action truing?
trigger change?
pillars and bedding?
custom stock?
left stock but just gone over good by
a knowledgeable person to make sure everythings
conducive to accuracy?
have you had stock rifles that say with a tuner
could do quite well as was?
i'm asking this to find out if people feel you have
to change things and spend money to make
yourself think, it will shoot better now. does money
necessarily make a better rifle?
thanks tom.

i'd vote for when you put on , take off or modify a factory component..trigger adjusments and bedding jobs don't count, head spacin, recrownin and paintin spurs on yer butt don't count:) ..jmho

guess i just shot myself in the foot !!!!

damn i fergot cuttin a new chamber don't count!
let's see... what else did i fergit ????

so if i put a jewell trigger on my 40-x is it
a custom rifle then? i know the turbo's, hall's
and other non-mass produced actions are
considered custom from the start.

darn, i like them jewel triggers !!..JEWEL triggers dont count either !!!!

thanks forgot recrown, so what does make
a stock gun say a 40x into what's called a custom?
is it like a car, metalflake paintjob that really doesn't
make it go any faster?

metal flake pain jobs was covered with paintin spurs on yer butt !
some would say, makin yer forearm flat would be enough to call it custom !

Weren’t 40X’s (available new to civilians) always a Remington Custom Shop item?

to me(and this will vary from person to person)when you true a action, install a after market match grade barrel, after market trigger, aftermarket stock, piller and glass bedding. that makes one a custom rifle for many of us.

i've seem remington centerfire 700's in a fancy wood stock with hart barrels and jewell triggers go for well over the cost of a new one. i guess that would be a custom to many of us shooters.

This reminds me of

When I was a young carpenter's helper I had an old carpenter show me his hammer. He told me that it was the very hammer he started with years before. He said that he had changed the handle at least a dozen times and the head twice. I guess that would qualify as a custom hammer.

When you have a rifle that you have changed everything on except the action it becomes custom.
