New to bench rest. New to custom bullets.

1. "are made with .705 or .800 inch J4 jackets in Niemi 7 ogive carbide dies"
What does that mean and what is the significance?

2. "weigh 52 or 63 grains".
I figured that one out.

3. "have a shank diameter of .2241 in. and a pressure ring diameter of .2243 in."
What is a pressure ring and what do you do with it?

Thanks
Tom

custom bullets terminology

Question 1 Thats the jacket length
Question 2 your correct the weight.
Question 3 the pressure ring.
The pressure ring is formed in the last step of making the bullet
The point up process. It happens with most bullets it is absent from factory bullets. The pressure ring helps seal gas upon ignition.
Clear?

I appreciate your shedding some light on this. The Corbin site really explains a lot.

Making Bullets

Tom sounds like you are making 22 cal bullets. If you have more questions there is a bullet making Thread going on the Competition Page plenty of guys over there that could help you.

Scroll down to bullet nose shapes.

Read as much as I could absorb in the Corbin website (your link). I'm sure I'll have to read some of it again to sort it out a more.

It would be better to use a rebated spitzer rather than a HPBT? Would that be one advantage of custom made bullets?

Would I tend to see some advantage if I am using a factory chambering?
