Custom Action - Extraction Angle/s

Extraction timing at it's worst in my 25+ years of experience!?!?!

For those viewing the 2 pics,
I do not silver braze bolt handles to bolt bodies.

The worst of the camming problem isn't visable,as the battery camming angle in the front receiver ring buttress' are 30 degrees, while the extraction cam angle in the rear receiver ring is a 45 degree angle.

So what you are saying is that there were 3 guys that designed elements of this action and they never talked to one another. One guy for the bolt, one guy for the rear rec ring and the other guy did the front rec ring area.

Basically,3 reputable companies.
1.A reputable custom action builder.
there are several other variables with this custom 700 clone-
side bolt stop has to be removed to allow bolt removal(simple fix).
front receiver ring lug buttress' vary .004" as received(true).
2.A reputable after market bolt/bolt handle/tooling manufacturer.
3.A reputable accessory manufacturer to silver braze bolt handles on for the reputable bolt manufacturer.

Dan,

As I explained to you on the phone Monday, you may have one of the bolt handles for a different action builder. The geometry of the primary extraction is the same as Remington. You confirmed this to me on the phone. I also told you we would stand behind any problem with our products and asked you to return them. I then spoke with the owner and he will ship us all the parts to inspect but you need to get them back to him.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Dan,
The bolt made it today and it looks good. Went to put the firing pin assembly in and discovered that Kiff's people sent a long action firing pin assembly for my Mod. 7. I am beginning to wonder if it will get together for hunting season.

Would you post your findings after inspection??

Dan,
Yes I’ll post the findings here, but as you know, I never said that there wasn’t a problem. Even after you explained how you used a flexible scale to measure the difference in the lug depths. Let me repeat what I told you many times Monday and again yesterday, we will stand behind our product but you need to send it back. For whatever reason you decided to post on this forum without giving anyone the courtesy to correct a problem if one exists.
Thank you,

As per our SINGLE/1 'phone conversation-
I stated that I used a flexible scale to stop the fwd surface of the bolt lugs flush with the integral lugs of the action as a reference to something that looked askew.
A depth measurement was taken from the front of the receiver ring to the integral lugs for verification.

If this was an isolated incident a post wouldn't have been needed.
Hint;
Remington extraction cam angle is not 45 degrees as per your clone action.

I've delt with a dozen of your timing issues that consumers need to be aware of,not to mention bolts/handles/timing on previous integral bolt/handle & bolt lug galling issues.
Yes,I've cut handles off N.B. bolts, timed & TIG welded handles for individuals on numerous occasions.

Seems history deems to repeat itself -once again.

We received the parts back this morning. I’ve measured the lug surface depth on our height stand. I removed the receiver from the fixture and replaced it six times to include fixture tolerance. I get between .00010 and .00050 TIR.
The bolt handle had been removed so I couldn’t actually see the fit to the receiver but it is looks identical to a handle I have here from another action manufacture. We could duplicate their primary extraction to match these handles but these receivers were made to fit a Remington. We used our test bolts on these receivers and they work fine.
I did however see some burs in the magazine well on one receiver that we missed. We’ll fix this prior to shipping.
As always we will stand behind what we make, we just need a chance.

Good to know you're on top of it Glen. I had the oportunity to look at one of your receivers, top shelf to say the least. Keep up the good work.

Actions

Glen,
I too have had a chance to see one of your actions. It is top quality and seeing how well it shoots at the matches says a lot for them being a solid base for a custom rifle. (Or maybe it was the rings, bases and magazine system that is on it that made it so special.) Keep up the good work.

The finish of the integral lug "battery cam angles" is a galling nightmare,a corn cob finish is the first thought that comes to mind.

Will the customer supplied Rem bolt/handle cam into/out of your 700 "CLONE" action?
No.
How much contact area do you get on your test bolts to the extraction cam of the rear receiver ring?
A pencil lead width is poor engineering to say the least.

An out of time OEM Rem handle will have a preverbial "CLICK" during extraction -this action takes the click to a whole new meaning-

Of the dozen Rem bolts/handles that I timed /TIG welded yesterday, not a one of them had/needed a 45 degree extraction cam angle on the bolt handles as your action required.

Burrs in the magazine well-
seems some one got sidetracked.

A month latter-
Customer is waiting patiently for the action(s) that only had a burr in the magazine well.
(Actions were sent out for repairs)
