custom action coating?

I was wondering if anyone has had the bolt and or internals coated on an custom BR action? I remember someone telling me that they had a panda coated with a product called NP3, but i have not heard muc about it. what can you tell me is it worth it, and problems, etc.

If no one has done it to a rifle then it must not be a good thing. Pistols must have to more tolerances built in. Just my thoughts.

One thing about any coating that is applied to the surface, they build up a few ten thousandths of thickness or more. You add a few ten thousandths to the bolt and a few ten thousandths to the receiver and you may wind up with a bolt that won't go in the receiver on some of the custom actions that have extremely tight clearances. I've seen that when reaming a Remington to .705" and installing a .704" diameter Pacific bolt in it. One action was coated with black T and the other one was NP3 coated. Neither bolt would go in the receiver without removing some of the coating.

A "LOT" of years ago I had a Shilen Action sent down to Texas to be Parkerized. Would this be what you are looking for?

I was looking to have the bolt done, I was told that it made things slicker than snot. Acording to Robart, (People that do the NP3 costing.) They have done thousands of custom actions (Bat , Panda, Sturgen, Stiller, Nesika bay, and so one.) and have never had a problem. They claim their coating is only .0003 thick.

Yes stiller coats ther actions, Theres is a impregnation deal. the NP3 is a niclkle product and is completly different from what Stiller uses.

I had several Pandas' treated with NP 3 by Robar, of Phoenix. I had no problems with clearances. The coating is good.
