I have often wondered why a person could not use the chamber reamer to crown your barrel . Using a snug pilot and a person could play how far to run in ,of course one would not need go in very far to deburr the muzzle .

Any thoughts ???

Using a chamber reamer is the easiest way to make a rebated crown. No improvements that I know of are realized by having the crown rebated. Keep in mind though what the crown would look like using a traditional chamber reamer that has a 1.5 degree leade and a freebore.

I have done a couple of barrels like that and I did not see any benefit. Granted the crown is then protected but all you end up with is shortening the effective length of the barrel (loss of velocity) while maintaining the original barrel weight. If that barrel makes weight I would rather have its full length available to burn powder.
