crown on broughton barrel

Yesterday I was cleaning my rifle and noticed that-the crown on my Broughton barrel was plane. It is not recessed. Should I have the crown cut like most of the target rifles are today? thanks for any help. garrisone.

If it shoots, leave it alone. If it does not shoot, a new crown may help and recessing it protects it from getting bumped. Since most of us use tunners, bumping it is not an issue.

garrison,

I had Bill Myers put a Broughton on my Suhl over the winter and he left the crown flush-cut rather than recessing it. As Don said: with a tuner hanging off the end there's no chance of putting a dig in it, that is unless you do something during cleaning, and then it would make little difference if your crown were flush or taper cut.

Not trying to speak for Roger Brock but all of the rifles that I have had Roger Brock rebarrel have flat crowns, they do have Boughtons on also. That would be 3 rifles at this point.

Thanks Charlie! I am leaveing the crown as is . garrisone.

No Recess

Mine has no recess either. I assumed it was to make cleaning easier with a tuner on the end. At least it worked out that way.
