cris - ANY CALIBER? What were you thinking!

cris,

I don't think so! I know I'm not allowing anything bigger than a .25 caliber to be shot at any of my matches no matter what the rules say! Have you ever heard the report from a .30, .40 or .50 caliber Airgun. It's massive, kind of like sitting next to the muzzle end of a 300 Win. Mag., and that's not exactly where anybody wants to be sitting when the trigger is pulled.

Why don't you do the right thing and go back to your newly posted rule changes and change the Unlimited Class back to being for .177's, .20's, .22's and .25's. No debating this one!

If the need ever does arise for larger calibers, which I doubt it ever will, then, and only then, a new organization can be formed to accommodate those wanting to shoot the Big Bores, and then the yardage can also be extended out to maybe 100, or even 200 yards.

Now, don't get me wrong. If someone shows up at one of my matches with a Big Bore and wants to try it, I won't deny them, only they'll have to wait until no one else is on the firing line before firing it off. But, not during competition. Too much like Apples and Oranges to be fair to the majority.

Dave,

Of all the things I did not want to hear about making rules.

What does unlimited mean to you? The only item that was a real "no go" was tethered tanks.

How you run your matches is your business and no, I have zero experience with big bore air rifles.

If "any caliber" is a problem with enough shooters, then it will be changed.

Cris,

How will you figure out the scoring if calibers above .25 cal are used?... especially if there is no limit.. which plug could you use?

Unlimited weight ... OK.. unlimited power.. ok too, but unlimited caliber doesn't make any sense to me.

Even .25 defeats the existing target design, turning near tens INTO tens.

No big bores at Salem, either. How are we going to score a target shot with a .30 against one shot with a .177? I have a good .22 plug that I use, and don't want to get into buying a bunch of different caliber plugs just in case guys start showing up with larger calibers.

If someone wants to start a big bore competition, wouldn't group shooting be better, anyway? Is it even possible to get 25+ shots out of anything bigger than .22 or .25? I could see 5 shot groups at 50 or longer for the big bores being a fun game!

Yes, the air capacity issue is the main reason no one was very worried about a big bore air rifle competing.

Nevertheless, the shooters have spoken, .25 caliber will be the maximum.

Chris, Being an old unlimited designer and shooter for more years than I would like to recall I have to side with ole' Dave on the caliber issue. Lets see what unfolds in the coming year and address it when needed. LD's point on the target is well taken also.
