Copper fouling - ???

Questions:
a) When cleaning the barrel, how do you tell if there has been a lot of copper fouling happening?

b) What is the cause of differing amounts of copper fouling from one bullet to the next?

Without a borescope all you can do is guess. However, with a smooth quality barrel like your HART, you should be able to clean the same way I do. I clean every 20 rounds (whenever possible) with Shooters Choice, and my borescope shows that it's doing the job very well. On rare occasions, I may get the slightest trace of copper that's easily removed with a few swipes of JB Bore Paste. Sometimes you can get a pretty good look inside the first inch of the bore using just sunlight and a Q-Tip.

However, if your cleaning a production quality barrel, it's a different matter. I almost always start with JB Bore Paste, then finish up with Shooters choice.

Have never, used JB bore paste so I really don't know much abuot it. Is it safe to use on a regular basis, thought it might wear away some of the barrel steel.:confused:

JB Bore Paste is a non-imbedding compound that doesn't hurt the bore in any way. I know shooters that use it exclusively for custom barrels without any sign of wear or accuracy loss. I'm sure there are other shooters with a million different ideas about it, but I've used it for over 10 years with no problems (verified by my borescope).

Hart Barrels

I don't know of any reason why anyone would need to use JB in a Hart barrel.

Unless several hundred rounds were fired without cleaning.

JB paste is good stuff. With a new factory rifle, I give the barrel 500 ( yep) strokes of JB. I'm satisfied that a barrel treated like that cleans up quicker and coppers less. I will often shoot an entire factory match (score) w/o cleaning.
 
RG-12 is the S-------

RG-12 removes all copper period.Maybe two 10 minute soakings and your done. That's after you get the carbon out with what ever you prefer.

I use KG-12, it is amazing.

Love the picture of teh cotton swab and muzzle by the way. I've been using that method to look for copper in my bore for years.

So is KG-12 some kind of acid?

We've all seen the picture of bullets soaked in all the copper removers. KG-12 I guess etched away copper from the bullet . So does that mean its some kind of an acid ?
