Cooper 17 Javelina ??????

Did Cooper ever chamber rifles in 17 Javelina and if not what is a 17 JAV?? One of the local gunshops took in a Cooper Model 21 in trade and the barrel is stamped 'COOPER 17 JAV" no other markings on barrel.
 
Yep... back in the day, Cooper chambered rifles in the 17 Javalina and 17 HeBee.
Dan C over on the Saubier board owned a JAV. I currently own a Cooper 17 HeBee with a Jewell trigger

They also offered a .17 COOPER about the same as a .17 on a .22 mag case except a center fire. some of the first cases were turned on a lathe.

Seems like the simplest thing to do would be, get the serial # and call Rob Behr at Cooper. He should be able to look up the record on that rifle.

.17 Jav

Friend had a .17 J that was built in the 60's. Trust me when I say after making him cases with his late fathers case forming dies, the J is one of the most labor intensive cartridges you can make. Not worth it.
