competition bullets

Has anyone tried the Nosler Custom Competition 22 cal bullets in formal matches? If so what is the opinion of them?

I realize that generally speaking most competitors are using bullets from one of the custom benchrest bullet makers but I can't help but remember those wonderful Remington factory benchrest bullets and wonder if the Noslers are in the same ballpark.

I havent used them in short range br

but the 69 grain 22 cal work better than the sierras or the bergers in my long range 22br. They are the best kept deal in the bullet business. They are by far the cheapest of the bullets too.

Stiller, thanks for the reply, that is what I was hoping to hear.

I have a 222 that shoots exceedingly well and that has a proven track record to use for a "test bed". I think that I will order up some and give them a try at 100 and 200.

Mike Walker spoke about those bullets in one of his (printed) interviews. Best I remember, he allowed that Remington was a big enough company (enough economic clout) to insist that the copper alloy sheets supplied to Remington were held to strict tolerances, esp. very tight dimensional requirements. If they didn't meet that tolerance, Remington rejected the shipment.

The closest we can come to that today is J-4 jackets, which is the largest reason the custom bullets dominate BR competition.

Charles E - Quite a few years ago I was visiting with Wayne Leek, who was retired from Remington by then, and he told me the same thing concerning the jacket material used in the Remington benchrest bullets.

When things slow down this fall I will play with the Nosler competition bullets and post my results.

Thanks, Drover
