Cold bore shot

Hello All
Issue cold bore shot is 3" high and 1.5 " left at 200yds. pretty consistent. Bore is borescope clean then 3 round for foul then allowed to cool, then shot. First shot high left as described then the next three are a clover in center. It is a stock barrel on a Winchester Coyote 7mm WSM 168 gr. bergers at 61.0 gr Retumbo powder 2950 fps. The rifle has been bedded with no measurable stress. Everything is tight. Anyone have any suggestions??????????

Thanks

If it was a target rifle, I would store it oiled with something like Ballistol, then clean out with one tight patch before shooting, in other words, leaving just a trace of oil in the bore. Might be worth a try in your case as it works with many of my range rifles.

Just remember to dry the chamber thoroughly.

After Sight in

After cleaning a Hunting Rifle, that is already sighted in, I would take a test shot at the target, making note of how far off the target the shot hits.
I make a note of the info, and then run one dry patch to clear any powder fouling from the bore. After allowing the rifle bore to cool down, prefer the next morning, I fire a shot from the cold bore and make note on POI. Dry patch again, and unless I bang the scope or remove and re-install. I'm ready to hunt. I will have a lot more confidence in the first shot from a cold bore.

Cleaning SOP?

I didn't see that you indicated your after shooting cleaning regimen. If you are thoroughly cleaning after every time at the range, then I would suggest trying just a pass or so with a boresnake after the next range session. Put the rifle away, then at the next range shoot see if your cold bore shot is better.

My 700 will make good cold bore shots if I don't clean it too aggressively between outings. A couple of times a year I will give a thorough cleaning, but plan on a few shots to get the barrel back in shape.

I think the previous responses are getting to the same point as I am using different methods.

Same story.

I have a 700 in 7 mag (factory barrel) that is very accurate.

One time I decided to really really clean it. The accuracy went away:-(=

After seasoning and not cleaning the barrel "borescope clean" it is again a very accurate rifle.

I also have a dog that hunts better when he is dirty. No he has never been borescoped.

Best wishes
