CMP 52D SN on bolt?

Just bought a nice 52D with "US" marking above the SN.

I am about 99% sure this means it was a CMP gun.

I also own a CMP Rem 40XB that has the SN electric pencil etched on the bolt. I understand this is pretty common on the 40X's.

Is this common on the 52D's as well or is it not unusual to find a 52D without the SN on the bolt? The SN indicates it is 1964 vintage.

Thanks
Earl

All 52's, regardless of model came with s/n on bolt. Many of the CMP guns do not have the s/n, indicating that bolt was replaced at one time or another. Also, it is not unusual to find a CMP with a mis-marked bolt from another gun.
Obviously originality was not a big concern.

I have two nice US marked 52-D's with no markings on the bolts. One rifle was purchased as a new unfired barreled action with bolt and no sights. Thanks to Fred J it now has a stock and is a complete rifle now.
Both rifles were CMP purchases.
