Cleaning custom bullets

Is it necessary to clean custom bullets before using them or just shoot them as they come from the bullet maker? Berger states that they clean their bullets as their last stage , and to my observation they do look like they have been cleaned. I recently bought a supply of custom bullets (not gonna name them ) and they seen to have a light film on them , and I think that would cause less friction when fired , and perhaps the accuracy would hurt because of it. What if anything do the most of you clean bullets with ?

I clean my bullets.
I place them in a jar full of laquare thiner, and swish them around ,and then let them air dry.
 
FWIW, I never cleaned a bullet in my life till I started coating them and after a while I even quit bothering to clean them before I Danzac them.

An observation. I'm pretty sure Berger cleans their bullets in a tumbling media from the looks of them.

If you were to wash them in a liquid, remember there is a fairly large void in the nose, and all the liquid didn't come out. then what??
 
I use acetone to clean them prior to Danzac coating. It evaporates off quickly left outside on a warm sunny day. This time of year, I've used a heat lamp when I was in a hurry.--Mike
 
I think I would ask a few bullet makers that shoot Benchrest if they clean their bullets before they shoot them or do they just shoot them right out of the die.

Thank you for all your input . I don't personally know any of you except for Dick and I've seen him shoot and so I guess I'll follow his lead. Again thanks for your input. John
 
I remember Al Mirdoch (Alberta Precision Shooter Supply) years ago telling me that Terry McCracken didn't clean off the lube and just loaded the bullets.

Terry shot well.....

Maybe "squeeky clean" is not the way to go.

Hey Randy Robinette where are you ?

Randy makes bullets second to nobody , they are used in competition by more of the top competitors (at least in 30cal) than any other bullet maker.
He is also a top contender and holder of at least one IBS record.

Do you do any special cleaning of your bullets or do you shoot them the same way you sell them.

Thank you for the heads-up e-mail, Dick.

Before shipping, I normally 'roll' the bullets in a clean terry-cloth towel, which removes any 'excess' lubricant - if I know the end user intend to use one of the dry-film coatings, I will spray the bullets with a little 'brake-cleaner', and again, roll them in a clean towel.

If I'm going to shoot them 'bare', I have always just 'toweled', then shot them. Before applying 'moly', I usually just throw them in the tumbler jar and tumble untill nicely coated with the 'moly'. RG
