Clamp-on tuner.

Hi there,
I'm very interested in the clamp-on tuner design.
In a post I read something about a Dwight Scott tuner.
I'll be very glad to see some pics.
Is the DS tuner or any other clamp-on tuner for sale somewhere?
Thanks in advance.
Bob.

Dwight Scott made...

a few tuners to his own design about three years ago. I have two of them. He will not make any more.

I like mine very much and wish someone would make some more. If someone called Dwight and wanted to make and market them I think they might get a positive answer.

Boyd, I'm surprised and glad that you have one. Since I don't know how to post pictures, please do so. Maybe someone will make them. Alas, they are fairly labor intensive.

It requires .900 dia. x 1" long. Picture as requested...4 oz. total wt.

Clean design.

Is that everything? No added weights? 3/8-24 thread, maybe?

And it worked?

thanks,

Jay

3/8-24 stainless allthread
Seems to help
Another thing, one doesn't have to clamp it at 6:00 O'clock.
I have heard of instances where an alternate position made a big difference.
Curtis Helton was kind enough to make the needed cut at the same time he was doing the crown. He was spot on the requested diameter. It takes a little thumb pressure to put it on, even if the screws are loose. There have been no movement issues with a 10.5# PPC shot free and loaded hot. Beyond that, its a great "what's that" generator at the range.:D

Thanks and question.

Boyd,
Thank you for posting the pic.
If I understand well the barrel needed a cut though.
Because we aren't allowed to make any modifications on barrels such as threading or cutting in The Netherlands I'm thinking of a clamp-on tuner with a tapered boring fitting the barrel.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,
Bob.

Why not glue on an adapter at the muzzle that is tapered on the inside and a cylinder on the OD, and then clamp onto that? If you make the clamp on large enough in ID it could be used with a variety of barrel sizes, each with its own glued on adapter.

Boyd,

It's interesting how shooters come up with similar answers. I know of an English shooter who threaded the sight tunnel of a Palma foresight & fitted a threaded weight to it & hung it upsided down to use as an adjustable tuner.

Fudd tuner

I think if you went to the homepage and clicked on Scott Fudd he will make you a tuner that is a clamp on.Another choce would be a Harrell's or Hoehn tuner.
Lynn
The web site for the Fudd tuner is http://www.benchrestspecialties.com/ . Then click on Mountain Specialties. Scott Hamilton is the owners name and his day job is an Engineer for West Virginia Paper Co. Scott's nickname and the tuner is called "Fudd"....don't ask.

Scott has several CNC machines he uses to make various rimfire and some centerfire benchrest goodies. The Fudd tuners are considered the top of the line tuner.
