Clamb on tuner - any one good?

I know that threaded is one way to go, but clamp on and glue it with JB weld should perhaps make it sufficiently strong anyhow? If so - which one?

It is for regular 100 and 200 yards shooting, HV/LV.

I use a clamp on tuner on my 30br HV gun. i started using blue lock tite but hat it move around a little. Not wanting to use a more permanent epoxy, I ended up using a small set screw tapped into the bottom side of the tuner clamp. this has worked perfectly, and the tuner was worth the effort, removing alot of verticle in the groups.

good luck

I may be showing my "tuner ignorance", but isn't one of the benefits of a tuner in being able to adjust it for the conditions, rather than varying your load? Epoxying it in place would eliminate adjustment.

You got me all wrong - what I am looking for is a tuner that is glued/attached properly onto the barrel and of course still be adjustable in some way. I.e. some "layer" in between so that the barrel can be kept un-threaded.

I should perhaps have made myself more clear...

For all practical reasons, the answer would be that I am not. I live outside of the US and you are, for some reason, not allowed to export barrels that are threaded in front. I could get someone to do the job for me here as well, but would then need to either travel far or send the barrel around by post which I am not that compartable with. I addition I have a few barrels around which are all new and not threaded yet. So you could say I', trying to make a short cut - that is if the short cut is worth doing, and that is what I am trying to find out. If it is no good I will get the barrels threaded dispite it will cost me some money and a lot of time.

OK, If we don't have all the info, it is hard to give a good answer. Even a clampon will need to be bored to an approximent size. If your barrels vary in size you may need more than one tuner.

If one uses a set screw do yourself a favor and use a small lead shot between the barrel and set screw. This will prevent marking the barrel.

Not sure I understood what you meant?

All barrels have the same contour.

Yours may all be the same contour and have the muzzle diameter, if so all is good. I don't have and 2 barrels that are close enough to share a tuner.

Some things to consider about clamp-on tuners

1) the muzzle OD needs to be turned straight...same diameter on all barrels that a tuner will be installed. Bore all tuners to that diameter.

2) On the Fudd or Hoehn/Harrell the screws should be tightened to no more than about 35 in/lb. If you doubt that, start tightening the tuner screws and slug the bore about every 10 in/lb. You will feel the slug stop at about 45-50 in/lb.

3) you are wasting your time with trying to epoxy a tuner in place.
