What Chrono's have any of you had experience with. Opinions greatly appreciated.

any experience with others?

Have a Chrony, never been thrilled with it, bought a CED along with thier tripod and am thrilled with it and am confident I get good readings.

Go to Midway website and read the reviews.

I've got one of the PACT chronographs without the printer, and it works fine as long as there's enough light which isn't a problem in Montana unless the light's coming in from the side. Side light into anyone's skyscreen might give it fits, but I don't know for sure. It's worked fine as long as there's light and a battery that works. Always keep spare battery(s) on hand because they die when you don't want them to.

my pact sucked...is that subtle?
it spent more time back in texas getting repaired than at my house or the range.
sold it
bought a oehler.....35 with printer...never looked back.

with them off the market i think i would look at ced if the pvm 21 was not on your budget.

please note your original question was our experience with chrongraphs...thats what you are getting.

your first resonse was why not to buy certian ones.....

if you want a cheap chrono, you dont need our permission to buy one...

I've got three chrony's and love them. I can't fault them for a cheap chroograph. I will step clear up to the Oehler 43 when I upgrade.

They're a little picky about how much light you feed them, use the "sunscreen" for the sunny days and take them off for cloudy/overcast.

Or put them under a light.

Al,

There's a guy in my city who's owned three. Two hang on the wall of the local gunshop, mortally wounded. He refused to hand in the third one, so the legend goes, when it got the coup de grace.

I have the Original CED and am pretty happy with it. I do regret that I didn't get the infrared option with it.
The good thing is when some guy talks you into letting him shoot a few rounds through your chrono you only have to worry that he will destroy the sensors and not the whole unit.
Thats how the guy in the previous post wound up with 2 Chronys hanging on the wall. I am sure some one shot holes in them.

I have a Competitive Edge Dynamics (CED) and am very pleased with it. I am able to copy the information to my WordPerfect files and add any notes or comments I want to include.

I have

the Competition Electronics Pro Chrono, and it has been flawless for 5-6 years. The display is readable from the bench (but at my age it's getting more difficult all the time). A remote display is available for about $85, which can be set on the bench. Without being very well versed in what's available now, I'd say the shooting window (unit to shade v-shape area above the sky screens) is probably the largest you will find.

Summary--good deal at ~$100-125.

I have a Shooting Chrony with the remote readout. It is very sensitive to low side light as I suspect most all chronographs are. I tried paper targets over the top and side, but noting worked really good. One day I discovered that since I mount it on a camera tripod I have all kinds of adjustment in different planes. So I just tilted the chrony over until the sun was as if directly overhead. Worked just fine then. I don't have the print out but if you will get an old plug in off some charger or whaterver, after you run a string of shots you can just push the plugin and out quickly and it will give you all the readings that go to a print out. You just have to do it one at a time. It gives number of shots, high, low, average and vel. of each shot. Also Es and sD.
