chronograph

Hello
I have an Oehler 35P chronograph and it is a very nice piece of equipment that I will never get rid of. But I am wanting something that I can use daily without having all the bulk and set up time. Been looking at the MagnetoSpeed. Has anyone tried one of the MagnetoSpeed chronographs, if so what was your liking of the unit?
Thanks Chet

I was at the Whittington Center for a benchrest match last month during the F-class championships. One of the Aussie shooters had his ammo disappear in transit and had to do some reloading. He came to the Coors range to do some chronographing using the Magnetospeed. The device attached easily to his rifle and the performance was good. The part that attaches to the barrel was very light. He wasn't shooting at a target, just into the berm trying to get velocities. The only question is how the device hanging on to the end of the barrel affects barrel dynamics. Don't know if you can shoot repeatable groups and record velocities at the same time. I did ask him that question and he responded that he didn't see much if any effect on groups. But that's from an F-Class shooter not a nit pickin benchrest shooter.

The Magneto speed is a great tool, I can get valid velocities anytime I want and they will be consistent no mater the ambient conditions. The display is very intuitive to use and you don't need a super decoder ring to operate it like the Chronies. I can shoot several round and move to new strings then at home pull the card, down load and edit my data then print it and keep it in my binder.
Some rifles may see a POI change, fewer see a group change, I personally have not seen either with any of my rifles. The data is good enough I know how much of a velocity change I see on my first shot from a cold clean bore then my second and from there they flatten out. A friend of mine hasn't used his Oehler since getting the Magneto speed and most of his shooting is cold bore shooting past 1000 yards mark where a bad velocity will show up big time, he's dialed in the last 4 rifles well past 1000 yards and not changed the velocity from what the Magneto speed gave him so he's impressed and that's hard to do!

One other consideration

One club that I belong to has been completely re-doing the 100 yd range and is not usable now. The 200 yd range has only three positions and you have to fire through tunnels do to nearby housing areas. Trying to set up typical chronos would be either a two man job or very tedious for one man. The magnetospeed would eliminate those problems.
