Chronograph testing?

Guys, is there a standard for the distance from the muzzle to the chrono for airguns? Firearms are usually nine feet from the muzzle for obvious reasons. Any standards for World Air Rifle?

Thanks, Dennis

I've been running mine about 4 inches from the muzzle. Can't imagine there would be to much difference but if some one where running on the upper edge and shooting a couple yards out it could put them over the limit at a match. Perhaps there should be a standard distance.

According to Pyramyd Air, a 22 rimfire should be set at 3' and an air rifle a little less keeping out of the air stream which might set it off.

I'd wonder more about a tolerance for matches because one chrono graph could be different than another...have heard allowances up to 2% in some matches..??

Some guns, such as those co2 powered, will not give accurate readings from very close distance. For co2, I have fond it wise to keep at least two feet away fro, the first sensor. Also, very powerful precharged airguns, such as those well over 40fpe should be chrono'd from a distance, as the blast cn disturb the chrono. I once blew a chrono setup nearly off the bench checking my powerful .45 cal BR airgun.
