chrome silicon firing pin springs

Are the Chrome Silicon firing pin springs as sold by David Tubbs, a higher
spring rating, or a better quality spring,,, maybe both

I don't know about their spring rates, but the Cr-Si springs are supposed to last forever. Never thought about it until I got an AR and have replaced the ejector, extractor, and buffer springs with Cr-Si springs so that I would have to replace springs at intervals. Did the same thing with a couple of 1911's and so far they seem to work as advertised, no sacking like normal music wire springs.

Whether or not that makes any difference in a bolt gun I don't know.

Chrome silicon steel retains strength better at moderately high temperatures (above 400F). Other than this it has no properties that make it better for use in a gun spring. Music wire is still the best spring material for guns unless corrosion occurs and then stainless steel becomes a better material.

Tubbs is probably jumping on the idea that the race car cam grinders picked up on 25 years ago. Iskendarian found that Vasco made the best spring steel money could buy, and had a very long life. Where you get them wound; I have no idea, but the first folks I'd ask would be Standard Die. Now adays the big push in springs has been Bellville washers when it comes to something very precise and controllable.

Pacecil,

You're still there man!

Please don't think I'm being facetious when I say, "You seem to know everything."

I'm serious. Sure wish I could make your acquaintance but you have probably put me on your ignore list. Call or e-mail me sometime. If you wish to remain anonymous, I'll understand but I'm not the arrogant, bad guy you may think I am.
