Chambering new barrels in a sleeved Rem LA

I am curious as to whether it is possible to chamber a new barrel in a sleeved Rem Long Action without taking the scope off of the action. If it is ,what is the procedure ?

One method would clamp the barrel in a barrel vise and use a rear entry "spade" wrench to remove the action.

Removing a very tight barrel with the scope on may damage some scopes if the barrel snaps loose hard. Scopes are not designed to take rotary shock.

Carl,
To make the job a little easier, closely check the headspace on the existing barrel along with bolt nose to counterbore and tenon clearance. That will allow you to tighten up or loosen dimensions on headspace and tenon as you see fit.

When you're dealing with a sleeve this can be a big help.

Good Luck,

John
