Sloughhouse Benchrest Shooters will be holding a "Chabot Special" Group/Score Benchrest match this Saturday Sept. 2nd at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center, Range 11 (Bob Dorton Memorial Benchrest Range). This match is probably our most popular event of the year with a little something for everyone. We shoot for both group and score on the same target at 200 yds, kind of like what they do in LR BR.
Updated format reflecting the new targets is explained below:

CHABOT SPECIAL MATCH
This match will be shot on the caliber specific SBS 200 YD Chabot Special target which has 3 record bulls in the center with multiple sighter bulls on both sides.
Shooters using .22, 6mm, 6.5mm calibers will shoot the .243 target, those using 7mm & .308 calibers will shoot the .308 target. Examples of targets are attached.
We will shoot the match in 4-20 minute relays of 3 bulls each with a 5 shot group on each bull. We will take a short break after each relay to change/score the targets, clean (F-Class shooters ignore this part), potty breaks, whatever.
Total of 60 shots for record plus unlimited sighters. 100 rds should be plenty, fyi I normally go through @80-85.

You can shoot whatever weight/class gun you want, BR pistols are welcome, no weight limit, 30 caliber or less.
We would prefer no muzzle brakes but will try and be as accommodating as possible.
Please try and be considerate of your fellow shooters, after all these are Benchrest matches. Were not used to big boomers!

This is always a fun match, with the 30's duking it out with the 6's for bragging rights, and requiring a little strategy to do well in the overall total. Rumor has it that we may have a few F-Class shooters coming down the hill to join Lane in abusing the BR shooters. Try not to beat up on them to bad!;)

I will send out Bench Assignments Thursday evening for anyone Pre-registered (greatly appreciated by yours truly) and if you come to the Friday morning practice, you can set up and practice on your bench.
Gates open at 7:00, go directly to Range 11 check in and if not pre-registered you can draw your bench and get set up.
We will try and start as close to 8:00 as possible (8:15 more likely), get done early and get everyone on the road to beat the holiday traffic! Weather is supposed to be mild in the low 80's, with mild breezes. (Yeh right!)

Match fee is $30.00, please bring exact change
$20.00 goes to Club expenses/range fees, small group/high score awards, etc.
$10.00 goes to the cash awards, with payouts to the top 3 in score, top 3 in group, and top 4 in OA,
as determined by your place in the 2 categories, lowest total score wins.
Hope to see you there!

Good morning all,
We had a great day yesterday at Sac Valley shooting the 3rd Chabot Special of the year, first one with the revised targets and format. We had a front coming through which although dropping a little drizzle now and then really kept the wind conditions incredibly mild compared to what we are used to here in the Ione Triangle.
It really wasn't much of a contest with famous sling shooter Lane Buxton dominating both Group & Score and winning the match in convincing fashion. Lane only had one group in the .7's, with just a bunch of constant 4's,5's, & 6's. He also averaged 52+ on the score portion! This is 200 yds remember, a truly awesome performance.
OK enough sucking up to my LR wind coach, on to the other shooters.
Francis Lee parlayed a 2nd in Score & 3rd in group for a nice 2nd Place in the OAL, & I managed to somehow scrape together a 3rd in the OAL, even after throwing an 1.25" group down on the 1st bull.
Whine, Whine, Whine.
We had a few F-Open guys join us, including Bruce who shot the match (quite well) prone (?!), and they all seemed to enjoy being able to see there bullet holes. Shawn was happy he got to actually use the 55x end of his scope for a change! Special mention to a couple of new (to us) shooters, Erik Naka & Terry Pippin who came out to try our game. Terry shot his 22-250, and made the most relevant point I've heard in a while, paraphrasing here: "You can read about it all you want on the internet, but you won't really know what it's about unless you come out & shoot"
Let me repeat that part, its important....
COME OUT & SHOOT!!!!
Thanks for joining us guys, we look forward to seeing you again.
I personally want to thank all the shooters for pitching in and helping, including Bryn, Erik & the usual 2 Steve's for setting stuff up on Friday. Unfortunately Steve Raeder couldn't make the match, he was fighting a stomach bug. Get well soon we missed you and your .30.
Speaking of which we only had 3 30BR's at the match but they represented well taking 2,3,& 4th place in the overall agg.
Complete results & pics attached. (Pics won't upload here?)
