Ceramic Tumbler Media

I had read on these forums that ceramic tumbler media worked well and decided to try it.
I ordered Lyman brand media and they sent a 1.75 lb. box, which is small.
How do you use the media, buy enough to fill the tumbler, use it in conjuction with other dry media, or use in a rotary tumbler with liquid like water and Dawn dish detergent.
I will not use it till I find out how to use it.

I've also been curious about this media. I've seen some at Cabela's and you use a liquid with it. Haven't taken the plunge yet.

Now you've piqued my interest :)

Wouldn't detergent just suds like crazy in a tumbler? What happens when it's all bubbles? Or do you fill it clear up? Seems that if it were full of water you'd need something heavier than ceramic.....

I dunno but I hope someone's mastered this.

The ceramic media is part of Lyman's moly bullet coating kit. They have small bowls that fit their 600 and 1200 series tumblers. It can also be used with Boron coating.

Thanks for the replies. If I remember correctly? I read about cleaning cases with it and it supposedly did a great job, even removing carbon from the inside of the case. Is anybody else's memory better than mine?

I use ceramic media to clean my cases. A rotary tumbler works best. The media I have comes with its own cleaning soap. A cupfull is all that is used. Put the cases, media, and soap together with hot water. Let it run for a few hours. The cases are clean inside and out. If the cases are getting plugged with media your using too much of it. Seems the sooner you clean them the better.

Bought a pail of it last year from Cabelas and was not happy about throwing several Lapua 308 cases away. They jambed in the cases and neck area and I could not get them out. They would probably work fine on straight wall cases but were a problem with bottlenecks. You must use the ceramic media with water and once your finished you have to rinse the cases then get the water out. I went back to corn cob and walnut shells.
