I have some CCI 400 primers that about 3 out of 10 will not seat in NEW Lapua 6 BR brass... Any Ideas.. Rem. 7.5 primers work great.. I was going to use the CCI primers to fire form and shoot P-Dogs.. And with Primers cost and availability I hate to just look at'em...

Thanks....

I don't know what to tell you except I have a lot of older (1980's) CCI small pistol primers that will barely fit into the brass. It is a tight squeeze.

I recently used 100 CCI 450's in some of the new Lapua blue box 6BR brass, to make 30 BR fireforming. These primers were from their Blount days (D07ZC). They were not tight at all, but worked flawlessly.

I would say "thank you CCI for your generous bounty!!" and save them for later when the primer pockets are opened up a little.

Stick with the 7.5s or purchase a PRIMER POCKET UNIFORMER. Even as good as Lapua is [and that's all I use] the uniformer takes some excess brass off the sides of the pocket or some off the bottom or both.

I recommend the Sinclair PPC/BR uniformer # UN-8006 [Lapua and Norma brass only] because it cuts a little deeper. You don't need a handle unless you like doing things the hard way. Also, no need for a power adapter. Just chuck the uniformer in a drill. The built-in stop keeps it from cutting too deep. Here's Sinclair's link: http://www.sinclairintl.com/.aspx/s...u/Sinclair_Primer_Pocket_Uniformers__PPC___BR

I haven't had any trouble with recent CCI primers, but in the 70's or early 80's they made some that were nearly impossible to seat with a hand priming tool. As Al says hang onto them for when the primer pockets get a bit large.

FYI, I just purchased new Norma 6XC brass and I absolutely have to use the pocket uniformer and remove quite bit of brass for the CCI BR2 primers to seat deep enough. So, the even more expensive Norma brass isn't so good in getting primer pocket size right either. Kinda makes you wonder what else is wrong with the brass. These same primers have always seated perfectly in the "cheap" Winchester .308 brass I use in my F-TR rifle.

Thanks guys.. yep the primers are of the 80's ventage.. bad thing is I have only 1 rifle that takes SRP's.. a 22BR..
