Could anyone please help me figure out why the case ends are swelling making it difficult to open bolt? Thanks.

Basic reasons:

1. Load is to hot.
2. To much web out of the chamber
3. Brass to soft
4. Chamber cut smaller at the web than the brass

Number 4. Don't you mean chamber cut larger at the web. If it was cut smaller they would be hard to chamber. If the chamber was cut smaller, how would they swell? Or maybe his sizing die is over sizing the case body. Or then on the other hand maybe I'm not seeing the whole picture.

WHOA, let's back up a minute.

Although I am also new to this sport there seems to be a few missing pieces to the puzzle.

Let's start here.....................
:confused:What type gun are you shooting, Factory, BR etc.?

If BR do U konw you chamber dimensions?

You say "Case ends swelling". Which end, Neck-Base?

I assume you are reloading..

What brand Brass R U using?

Is the brass new or used?

If used, how many firings on it?

Does loaded round chamber OK?

We'll start there 4 now and see where this goes....

Donald,

After re-reading my post. What I meant to say was the chamber being cut to close to the deminsions of the brass. Kind of what can happen with a 22ppc -.100 short that has a standard 22ppc reamer ran in short. Some lots of 220 russian lapua brass will not work very good. They chamber fine at first but after a couple of firings, they tighten up at the web and no die will fix it.

I've had this occurance more than once.

Oh, I forgot, maybe the FL die won't size the brass down far enough.

Shinny,
You are absolutely right. How easy it is to just assume he was talking about a 6ppc. When we don't know if he was talking about a 219 Wasp or a 458 Win. My bad.

Hovis,
I have a bit of a problem as in your last statement. On some of my barrels the FL die just does not size the case down enough to stop the "click". Maybe the die is wearing a bit. That usually happens when I reload the brass too many times, stuff I just use for practice. New brass no problems. Funny sometimes when you can see the answer when you don't even understand the question.:eek:

skip comments here, and post them on the non comp br forum , where this poster put the same question.
