Carbon Fiber Rod?

Anyone using solid carbon fiber one piece cleaning rods from Tipton (or others) and can share good and/or bad experiences? I've only used Hall and primarily, Dewey coated one piece rods, but my last Hall's coating shrunk and then started to peel at a nicked area. It also took a slight permanent bend, so a new rod is needed and the carbon fiber ones won't permanently bend and no coating to shrink or peel. I'm only concerned with its surface imbeding materials that can harm my bores. Any experiences?

I am very dissapointed with the Tipton rods. I've had the tips break off three of them. They aren't interested in fixing them. I won't buy any more from them.

I've had very good luck with the "Lightening rods" from

http://www.sharpshootr.com/rods jags patches.htm

The same folks that sell WipeOut and PatchOut. They are warrentied for life. So far, after three years of rather heavy use, my really long .22 rod is doing just fine. No sigh of it needing anything. None of the solvents I've used bother it, and the coating is holding up just fine.

I use it with a Mike Lucas rod guide which helps to keep it aligned with the bore. The 42" rod is relatively flexible, so when I start it with a jag and a tight patch I hold the rod instead of the handle to avoid bending it too much. I find I can hole it and still let it rotate so it works just fine.

Carbon fiber is very abrasive. While it might be OK for occasional use in a shotgun or hunting rifle I'd never consider it for a Bench Rest rifle or any other firearm that's going to get cleaned frequently. I like well polished steel rods.

I won't buy another C.F. tipton either, or use anyones for that matter. Mine semi broke in the middle, over flexed it just a bit and about a 3rd of the strands broke. I filed them down and saved it -took me a long time to figure the black i could never get out of my bbl was the carbon fiber from the rod.

I now use a coated rod... when i get a bore guide i will switch to something like the steel Ivy Rod, a sponser here on BC joe:)
