yes it has nothing to do with shooting but there may be a few who are interested in watching some of the finest curlers in the world.

The Canadian Womans Curling Championships are on this week. They are streaming games live on the internet. I am not sure if citizens of the US will be able to get the online streaming games but give it a sht if you are interested.

Each his own

but I find watching curling about as exciting as watching paint dry

BA

The thing that must bother us though is that curling is televised, is watched & does have a noticeable climax, whereas most of our shooting sports, which get no exposure, are really in the paint drying category. Apart from the olympic events, which the ISSF has packaged well as televised events, the only shooting sport I can recall seeing of late which had any punch was a couple of guys with 10/22s on steroids going head to head shooting exploding targets of various dimensions at not all that challenging distances.

If a match is small enough, I'll maybe set a scope up on a tripod & watch some of the groups form, but hey, the minute the sun comes out, there I go dozing off with the excitement.

Thanks Calvin. My wife is curls at our local curling club (3 sheets) and runs around to Bonspeils during the season. She is headed for Rochester this coming weekend. Watching is not a lot of fun but the food, laughter and libation make it worth attending. bob finger

John hit

the nail on the head re it being televised.

Many do not appreciate the sport but it is another Canadian staple that gets us thru the winter.

It is a sport that may appear easy as hell but trust me, the ones at the higher level like the National Championships are a league of there own.

Games can be exciting when teams trade tough shot after tough shot.

Bonspiels, ah the staple of a great weeked. Home cooked turkey or roast beef suppers, a bit of conversation and a few ales.

C'mon Bill,

I persoally take exception to this quote!! Canadians are notorious non-drinkers, EH!

curling and no drinking in the snake pit...............................

Maybe I had not better give up the MAIN reason for curling being such a GREAT game.........

What sport can one get better at with the more alcohol in the system?

I will never forget my dad telling me about a Bonspiel he curled in. He was not a skip but decided to skip this one. He curled with his brother and sis in law who were not curlers and my mother. They were doing not bad in this spiel. They had a game against a real tough team coming up. Dad mentioned the men were so drunk they could barely stand. He felt that they had the game in the bag. WRONG. He said they could not miss a shot and they, DAD, ended up shaking hands early.

My brother read a book about the game and the stories from years gone by. He says the funniest stories were from The Wrench, Ed Werenich.

My wife calls the libation "aiming fluid". Not sure why they use more after the game but some things are not to be understood. bob finger

I'm one of the few. It's an interesting game. Went on the net and found out what some of the terminology meant. I thought weight meant how heavy the stone was and not the speed. Some mention was made that a quality stone costs up to 1000.00 each!

Thanks for putting the link up for us paint watchers.

Our TV has been on the curling all week and my wife went in to watch the final game and do the random surprise drug test on Team Canada. Her and another lady have been doing this for a while now to many different athletes in B.C.

Well the Championships

are over. :(

There was some pretty nice eye candy to watch going up and down the sheet to boot......

Last years reigning champs Team Canada defended there title with GREAT success. They will be representing Canada in Korea next month.

It was nice to see them win as they were my favorite as they are from Winnipeg, MB. They sputtered in there tie breaker game. They should not have won but those that know the game of curling anything can happen.

After that scare they curled well and were on a roll again.

Now I just need to see who will be representing the US?

People say curling is like watching paint dry but in a sense it is no different than shooting. The skip along with the rest of the team needs to be able to read the ice just like a shooter the wind or mirage.

The tune of a gun similar to that of the mechanics of throwing that 40 lb rock over 140' and having it stop where asked for. It may not be measured in thousands of an inch but 1/2" here or there is a BIG difference in this game.

The Canadian mens starts March 14 and can also be seen on TSN. Though the women are better to look at the men bring a whole new level to the game.

Calvin,

Give us a heads up later on so we can see how the men do.

I keep telling my shooting buddy, who's also a curler, that a curling rink is a waste of a good indoor range.

Watching curling is about as exiting as watching golf and grass grow.

A golf course is a waste of a good rifle range.
