I shoot an old 52C with irons and a 15X Ultra varmint Unertl, We do informal 100 & 50 yd matches here for beers, bucks shooting Fed Automatch, serious shooting brings out the old green, white box Rem pistol match of Wolf MT. Fed UltraMatch UM1 is the very best ammo I have shot in this gun. 100 yard accuracy was amazing . Can this rig have a chance in these 50/50 matches in GA,FL using decent ammo? Thanks, Ive lurked and enjoyed this site for a couple years

I have a Winchester 52-C that we have used for BR shooting since 1992. First, my wife used it as her rifle and won many a match with it, kicking some big shooters butts fairly regularly. Then I started shooting it and still shoot it some today, but now my favorite has changed to a 40X. My 52-C is a factory heavy barreled rifle, still using the factory barrel and trigger. Only thing I have done is added a tuner and a McMillian Edge stock to it..
So, to answer your question, YES, depending on your barrel, your 52-C can be competitive, very competitive... I would get a Harrell or Von Aherns tuner for it, find a good lot of ammo it likes and have at it...

Mid-pack at best

I`m a 52 collector and have approx. 30 C`s& D`s they shoot fine ,they have large bores and eley ammo they don`t like, the old lupua L series fit the bore better (.224) some of that is still around. The equipment and ammo has left the old 52`s behind. Bring it out ,have fun,but be aware you are at an extreme disadvantage!:)

Bring it to 50/50 match and shoot the funfire target to see how it would do. As long as it is still factory barrel, action, and trigger you can have fun and pick up some pointers and see how well it will do.

thanks guys, I think I have seen the old Lapua L ammo advertised around, I wish I had a case of the Fed UM1, it was killer in this gun, I shoot old mod 70 Varminters in swift and .243 along with 2 30-06 mod 70 targets in 06 and this 52C shooting the UM1 stuff will run with them all day at 100. I really wanted to do the 50/50 match in Montezuma GA today , get feet wet, see how the pros do it and pick up some ammo and targets. ashamed of my old bag rest .;)
